Chamo San, Scared. Ink on paper. 2010
I really enjoy looking at other people’s sketchbooks and this one really stood out to me.
So here’s my -possibly too long- interpretation of this piece: I think that it is very common, within our culture, to associate the color white with purity and black with evil. This generality made this piece particularly interesting. I found it odd that the silhouette of the ‘evil’ figure is the color white. It gives the illusion that the figure is ‘punched out’ and is not there anymore. Maybe the girl is mental, who knows. Nevertheless, I think that this drawing was done very well and made my mind wonder a bit—one of the beauties of art and interpretation.
